FAQs

What is independent living?

Independent living refers to a housing option designed for seniors who are still capable of living on their own but desire a community setting with access to various amenities and services. This style of living generally offers a maintenance-free lifestyle, including no more snow removal or lawn cutting, allowing residents to focus on enjoying their retirement years.

What types of accommodations are available at your independent living facility?

The Park Danforth offers 110 market-rate, one-bedroom, deluxe one-bedroom, and two-bedroom apartments as well as 70 federally-assisted studio and one-bedroom apartments. The residences offer a kitchen with all appliances, dining area, living room, private bath, and bedroom. Deluxe apartments offer more spacious accommodations, with some featuring a balcony, a second bedroom, or a den.

What types of services and amenities are offered?

As a resident, you’ll have access to multiple dining venues, flexible meal plans, extended mealtimes to fit your lifestyle, a Life Enrichment program, transportation to off-campus cultural events in our transport van, cable/high-speed internet (included in market-rate apartments), paid utilities (except phone), 24-hour emergency staff, daily check-ins, and home support services (laundry, housekeeping, etc.).

What kind of activities are included in the Life Enrichment programs?

The Park Danforth offers a wide range of enrichment activities to appeal to all residents including live entertainment, movies in our theater, spiritual offerings, exercise programs, resident-created and -led activities, and van trips to shopping and cultural events.

Is independent living suitable for individuals with specific medical needs or disabilities?

Independent living is generally designed for seniors who do not require extensive medical care or assistance with daily activities.

How does independent living differ from assisted living?

While both independent living and assisted living cater to seniors, there are key differences between the two. Independent living is for individuals who are self-sufficient and do not require assistance with daily activities, whereas assisted living provides support with tasks like bathing, dressing, medication management, and personal care.
